The Gordon School - > Beyond the classroom - > After school programs - > Music lessons - > Scheduling lessons. Lessons are scheduled on a first- come- first- served basis by calling instructors directly. Parents should notify instructors in mid- January whether or not students intend to continue lessons for the second semester. Lessons are not held on vacation days, conference days or early dismissal days unless prearranged with the instructor. Students must be under an adult's direct supervision after school. Gordon's Gators and YAP programs are available before and after lessons. Cancellations. Lessons can only be cancelled in the case of a student's illness, and parents should call the instructor as soon as possible to let them know.
Social events, vacations beyond those on Gordon's calendar, medical appointments, and sports events are not valid excuses. Students who cannot attend school for health reasons, or are sent home during the day, cannot participate in after school programs, including athletic games, lessons, or any performances. These lessons will be made up later in the semester or refunded if lessons fall short of the fourteen by the end of the semester. When afterschool programs are cancelled due to severe weather, lessons will be made up later in the semester. From the program director. We monitor how students and their teachers connect throughout the year, so that we can facilitate the optimal experience for everyone. It is so important to have a good working relationship between student and teacher. When you call to arrange your child's lesson, your child's teacher will clearly go over his or her expectations. The PTA arranges for after school classes to be taught (either on school grounds or nearby). These classes (which are determined by community interest) tend to be one day a week (except for Spanish, which is 3 days a week) for. After school extra-curricular activities are such great ways for your tween to expand their horizons. Items you should discuss are things like practicing, possible rewards if you and the instructor feel that is appropriate, consistency in showing up for lessons, the importance of bringing materials needed for the lesson each week, and expectations for performances in recitals. Often, children do not feel ready to perform publicly in the January recital. Although our audiences are extremely caring, relaxed, and supportive of our young musicians and their efforts, some children need extra time or extra encouragement. The decision rests ultimately with them. If your child is one who is very nervous about the idea of performing and does not feel ready to showcase new skills in January, you might consider bringing the child as an audience member to the January recital so that they can see the compassionate, gentle and relaxed atmosphere that Gordon recitals are known for. This can often help alleviate fears or worries of embarrassment, forgetting material, etc. How to Make a Schedule for Kids After School. Gone are the days when kids came home from school to play unsupervised until mom called . Setting up a schedule for your children that enriches their lives and doesn't stress them (and you) out is quite a balancing act. For today's kids, after- school activities are numerous and diverse. They can range from school- sanctioned after- school programs to after- school time spent together as a family. In other words - - after- school time can be formal and organized, or it can be simple fun family time. The main reason to create an after- school schedule is to help your child know what to expect, to be sure he or she isn't overwhelmed by too many activities, and to enrich his or her experiences. Just a few examples of after- school activities include: Academic support. Sports (soccer, football, Little League)Music, theater, dance, or art. Playtime. Volunteer work. Church groups. Homework or tutoring programs. College or job prep (for older kids)Any parent will tell you that the biggest problem to overcome with after- school programs is scheduling everything efficiently. Making a schedule and sticking to it is key.
